I'm not sure the .pol file is involved since that's just for Java, but I could be wrong...

What happens when you download a <300 KB MP3?

you can use ur own ringtones if u upload them to ur phone via blutooth. once it is uploaded on to the phone you will get a pop up asking u if u want to set it as ur ringtone.

but remeber that the ringtone has to be less than  300kb

i hav found alot of nice things at this site

Hi everyone,

The ringtones I've made are available for download at http://www.j-ober.com/ringtones/tonelist.html.  Help yourselves.  Not sure if you can d/l them directly to your phone (I tried with OperaMini and got an API error; maybe the default browser will work.  I used Bluetooth to get them onto my Xenon.)

A couple of them are too big - I have included the file size on the page so you can see those.  Anyone with Audacity or another audio editing program, you can feel free to try and knock the bitrate down to shrink the file size if you want.  I think it's only the Who songs that are too big.

Beastie Boys fans, I HIGHLY recommend Girls01.mp3 as your message alert tone.  Folks seem to enjoy that one.  Most of the rest of these I made as custom tones for friends of mine.  Zelda.mp3 is another one that I enjoy, as well as the Imperial March and Ride of the Valkyries (I use that one for Mom...)

Have fun!

The http://www.j-ober.com/ringtones/tonelist.html link lets you download straight to your PC, if that's what you're asking.

Are you sure it's under 300 kb and you're going to Menu> Settings Tab> Sound> Ringtone> Sounds to set it?
I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't let you set a ringtone.

yep, i've had it down to 100-something kb and the sound was quite crap and it still wouldn't let me. the only way i found that's worked was actually to use that makeyourownringtones site, and to send the ringtone "to my cell" from the drop-down menu. it lets me set it as a ringtone but it only gives me that option once. after that when i go back to my ringtone files, it's there but with no ringtone option.

my only question for that is, is Rogers going to charge me for the download i have to do?

If you have an unlimited data plan, no. Otherwise yes, you will have to pay for the internet usage.

I love it.

I could use some help though.  My last phone was as basic as it gets, and now my Xenon does a heck of a lot.  My question being, now that i've made the ringtones, how do I get them onto my phone?

If any of you are rolling your eyes as you read this I guess I deserve it but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

There are several methods.
First, you can get a data cable and transfer them just like a flash drive. (You may have to get drivers, but Vista and Windows 7 should do it automatically.)

Secondly, if your computer has bluetooth, you can pair it up and send it. Or pair it to a different device with bluetooth and send it that way.

You can send yourself a picture message from your email, using this template: xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net . (The x's are your phone number, assuming you have AT&T)

And finally, you can just use the internet on your phone to download it straight to your device.

If you have any questions, just PM me.

.
So I've done some research recently, and the Lg Xenon suffers from the same issue as the LG Shine and Vu, there is a security certificate (Rogers.pol, ATT.pol depending on your service provider) which restricts files from having access on the phone, the service providers say that it's for "protection from malicious programs" but it's more along the lines of you having no other option but to buy tones, apps, and games through them. There are methods to work around the .pol file, but they currently only work on the Shine and Vu from what I've seen.
It's a "buy only our ringtones" policy.

I just upgraded from a Shine and this is true.  But how do the other people who have posted in this thread work around this???
