Hi all, I just got my xenon about 2 weeks ago.
I've been wanting a handheld with wifi but don't want to get an apple product.
Anyway, my goal was trying to make internet work on my xenon WITHOUT paying rogers for browsing plan.
I've found some phones could connect to a computer using bluetooth, then use the computer as a port to get onto internet.
Is there ANY way to do this with Xenon?  Or is Xenon too new that nobody has done it yet?
I'm really excited to hear feedbacks (more like read them  Grin)

I don't understand why you would want to do this. If you're near your computer, why not just surf on it (instead of the phone)? Please explain.
The xenon does work great to transfer files to and from a PC using bluetooth. I have a blutooth USB adapter that I use for this.

I just want to know the power of bluetooth-hate it that its a powerful device but restricted by providers and manufacturer.
There is a transfer bluetooth protocol WPAN, which if it works with xenon, i'd say its pretty cool.
Sometimes I'm just lazy to turn on my laptop and I always use my husband's pc.
And if I just want to browse lightly for 1-2 hours, and my husband is on his pc, I don't want to turn on my laptop.
Just want to turn my xenon into a 'smartphone' without paying for one.
Trying to use browser without having to pay the crazy money sucking rogers....
*am i considered swearing yet??* understand my reasons yet? I know its lame, but I want to extend the capabilities of my XENON!!! love it by the way!

Humm, I see what you are trying to do. I can't seem to do it. As I said, I can transfer files back and forth through blutooth. I tried to use the phone with a personal area network (PAN), but can't seem to figure it out. Maybe someone else will chime in here. I have the feeling that the xenon can't do this. I share your opinion on paying all those extra fees to the phone carrier. I don't have any online or text messaging on my phone. I don't like getting nickel and dimed to death!

So has anyone figured this out yet? Ive been reading some tutorials, but nothing seems to help.

It would be great to have this going, especially to get java apps for us with rogers/fido who have to get our apps OTA.

Xenon doesn't support Bluetooth PAN, so you can't access Internet on the Xenon through another device.

I am also on Rogers.  Why don't you try the UMB or unlimited mobile browsing add-on.  It is either $1 for a day, or $10 for a month with no commitment, you can cancel the month at any time and it is prorated to how long you had it.  You can't go wrong for unlimited for $10 a month.  Hell I spend more than than on coffee in a few days at Timmy's!!

Then why is there an option for it under 'Supported Svc' on my GR500?
That's just mean, listing it but not allowing it's use.

You sure it appears in Top Menu>Settings>Bluetooth>My Bluetooth Info>Supported Svc ?

If so, could you tell me who your carrier is and what your firmware version is?

As you've guessed, it's just telling you what your paired device supports...  Bummer though, I was hoping maybe you had some new firmware!

I have the feature in question and I have not been charged anything extra yet. I've browsed and downloaded .jar apps, music, videos, etc. Even looked into and tried out tethering. It worked great, quite easy and no extra charges on the next bill.
I don't agree with paying for data for a smart-phone. In Canada it is still too much. I love this feature, it's worked great for everything I throw at it.

Me too, I'd like to use my phone to chat when I'm at home so I don't need to be tethered to my pc all the time.
