2009-10-09: Updated attachment for Bolt v1.5

Essentially the same modification for Opera Mini in Landscape also applies to Bolt (which may replace Opera Mini as my new favorite browser)

Make the following modifications to the JAD to get the arrow keys facing the correct way.  Or use the attached JAD (for Bolt 0.94, Verisign certificate).

Notes:
Bolt seems slightly smarter than Opera Mini in the menu configuration.  It knows the phone is in Landscape mode and will display the option for "Portrait mode" in the settings.  Like Opera Mini, portrait mode runs upside-down with respect to the phone.  It will still function properly, you just have to hold your phone upside-down.  The arrow keys will still "face" the correct direction too.

ADD:
MIDlet-Touch-Support: true
Navi-Key-Hidden: true
UseNativeTextButtons: false
ReverseSoftkeys: false
UseNativeCommands: false
LGE-MIDlet-Height: 240
LGE-MIDlet-Width: 400
LGE-MIDlet-TargetLCD-Height: 240
LGE-MIDlet-TargetLCD-Width: 400
MIDlet-Screen-Mode: Landscape

Hmm, found that embedded video playback has an orientation problem.  Trying to figure out what's going on now...

UPDATE: Seems the same thing happens on other platforms, so it's likely a Bolt issue...

I feel like I am the only numbskull that doesn't understand how to do this.... Huh  I've been seeing hacks, telling me to add strings of code to the .jad? where and how do I do it?  I've downloaded the the bolt application, and would like the landscape option.... I also see I am supposed to download a file from here?

Thanks in advance

.JAD files are the installation instructions for .JAR files.

If you have Internet on your phone, you can just download the .JAD file here from your mobile and it will download and install Bolt from Bolt's download site with the proper modifications already in place.

If you don't have WAP access, then you'll need to
download the boltvs.jad file from here
download the the boltvs.jar file from Bolt's site
edit the boltvs.jad file so the MIDlet-URL line reads just MDlet-URL: boltvs.jar
transfer both files to your phone and open the boltvs.jad on your phone to install it.

Life really is much easier if you have Internet on your phone...

thanks for the quick reply!    I do have have internet access on my phone.  So, from what it sounds like, it's just a matter of me downloading the file. Do I download the .jad file first and then Bolt?

If you download the jad file from here, it will automatically download the JAR from Bolt's site.

If you're downloading it from this forum, I'm not sure whether the forum's server reports the correct MIME type for JAD files.  Try download it to your PC then send it to a WAP redownloader like http://www.waphq.net/

The arrow keys work great, but can we get the enter key to work to click links etc?

Thanks

Bolt doesn't seem to have alternate key mapping in the JAD parameters.

That's one thing I miss from Opera Mini.

Send the Bolt guys a suggestion.  They seem to be pretty responsive.

Yeah, I got the notification - I've been really busy at work and at home so I haven't had a chance to take a look at whether the same modifications need to be made to the JAD (which is most likely true).

It's because the JAD downloads the JAR directly from Bolt's website.  Therefore, when the JAR is updated on Bolt's end, the filesize (and signature hash) doesn't match the modified JAD anymore.  The same thing would happen if you had an unmodified JAD saved on your phone or computer.

Updated JAD for Bolt v1.5 in original post.
