The real question is whether you want a phone with a Lithium-based battery.

Which is... just about all cell phones - unless you have one of the older "brick-like" phones.

That was my point... Lithium-based batteries are the de-facto standard for cell phone technologies, so if the OP is concerned with battery meltdown, then they just shouldn't get a cell phone.

Same with laptops, though in that case you can still find laptops using NiMH batteries instead of Li-Ion or LiPoly.
