I have a very hard time believing that a 3.6w battery can supply enough current to do this. Something tells me there's a lot more to this story. His daughter had a burn as a result of this? Sounds like she was sleeping on the phone: that's issue #1. What else might have been going on?

I've noticed that the phone does get warm when surfing the web, either with the built in browser, or using Operamini.

Maybe she was sweating on that thing and it added to the problems.

You can see where she could have been lying on top of the screen, how it's curled up.

Just spend a little time researching lithium "lipo" fires.  You'll see...... These batteries can be dangerous. Hats off to the cell companies for controling them as well as they do. Otherwise this would be way more common.

Yeah, seems to result from overcharging, trying to draw too much current, etc. What I find interesting (besides the fact the guy's daughter got burned, meaning she was already putting her weight on the phone) is that the guy seems to be quite jovial about a battery blowing up and injuring his daughter. Doesn't that seem just a little strange?

Interesting theory on laying on the phone. She was sleeping so who knows. However, laying or sitting on a phone shouldn't cause the battery to fail unless the design isn't protecting it well enough. Heck people sit or lay on phones all the time.

As for being jovial......... You may be are missreading the meaning. The sarcasm and jabs are intended to steer people away from LG.

Mad as heck is the real feeling.

It's very possible, and unfortunately the risk you take with Lithium based batteries, or batteries in general.

Remember that batteries are sources of power, meaning there's stored energy there.  And if that stored energy is released quickly, heat results.
