Not really, unless your carrier won't unlock your phone for you, and you have $189 to buy an Octopus box...

Besides, unlocking the phone will simply let you use other carrier's SIM cards in it.  It won't remove any of the firmware protections already in place.

I just watched a tutorial video they had on their site about flashing the firmware of the GR500. Seemed to look legit, since it had its connection as an A2 micro usb cable, the same kind the xenon uses.

So, I don't know how that thing does it, but maybe there's a program someone out there has made that emulates the octo-box's abilities, and can use its modded firmwares?

LG does not release firmware for the Xenon, so the only way to work something out is if someone took the carrier's firmware, found the codes that blocked stuff, recoded it, then reconstructed it.

Sound like a pain in the ass? Well it is.
