Hey everyone, just wanted to see how things are going with accessing the file systems and coming up with something concrete.

I was looking around the LG site a few hours ago and stumbled upon their USB drivers...you've got the usual modem drivers, then 2 drivers called Flash USB or something...maybe they're just the drivers for Mass Storage Mode. It was a bit tricky, so I couldn't work it out very well...

I downloaded this...

http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/data/general-documents/mobilesoftware//B2CAppSetup.exe

Then just clicked "Install USB Drivers" and fooled around with it a bit. I got stuck at one point in particular...after it installs the flash USB drivers by Infineon, a new window pops up and basically says, unplug your phone, remove the battery, plug it in to your computer without the battery, ignore any dialog boxes that appear, and when the installation is finished, unplug your phone, replace the battery, plug back in to your computer, and choose "PS Suite" when you're prompted on your phone...

I never got any dialog boxes I should have ignored and I've NEVER been prompted to choose anything on my phone when I connect it to my computer...so i donno.

Maybe you guys can figure it out, maybe it's something totally uselsss and I'm writing this long post for no reason, but what the hell, it's worth a try I guess.

You could just click "Download" beside your provider also, and that'll give you the same ZIP file with all the drivers, but for some reason it won't give you that new window...Anyway, have fun  Cheesy

Also, the USB drivers on the LG website are 4.9.7, not 4.9.4 like I saw in some of the other drivers linked to in this forum...

I gave up ever since I dropped my phone in water a while ago. It's really flaky anymore. Just trying to ride it out til I'm eligible for an upgrade discount.

Good find!

From the Customer Support menu of the LGMobile site, choose Application, Manual & USB Driver Download...

Inputting my serial # and model as GR500 gets me the latest USB driver (LGUSBModemDriver_Ver_11.0.0.28844_EMP.zip - extracted to "LG MC USB U330 Driver.exe") and user manual.

Installed the Flash driver via DPInst.exe

1. Disconnect USB
2. Power OFF phone, WAIT until the lights go off.
3. While holding down the Camera button, plug in the USB
4. If you haven't already connected in this manner, you should see a prompt to install drivers for Mobile Equipment USB Flash.  Let Windows search automatically and it should install the driver.
5. Wait for the Start Updating button to enable in LGMobile Support Tool, then click it.
6. Phone Update window should appear.

Mine went for a little bit then says Software update is not supported for this model.  Not sure if that's because I already have the newest firmware, because the tool simply doesn't support the GR500, or because AT&T mandates all firmware updates be OTA.

But we have learned two good things:
a. We can use the LGMobile Support Tool to download the latest USB driver.
b. We don't have to jumper the pads to enable BOOTMODE - the hold-down Camera button trick works, putting it in BOOTMODE at least for about 10 seconds.

Sorry, it's been a while since I've felt like tinkering with this piece of...you know the rest.
So, unfortunatly I'm having a couple of problems in terms of drivers and whatnot. If you could upload the .zip you downloaded it would be greatly appreciated, I haven't been able to find that one for the GR500. I found it for the GT400 though...and it came with PC Suite III. If you want I can upload those and maybe someone can maybe compile/decompile/mash some of the files to let PC Suite III read the files on the GR500. It has a Java Applications button Cheesy It looks really tempting, but I can't get ti to work Sad

I just have a mess of LG stuff on my computer at this point, and thankfully I'm reformatting my computer soon. So once I backup everything, I'll be able to start installing the drivers from scratch and maybe have more luck. But for the time being, no go.

The driver through B2C seems to be the same as the one on the GR500 CD...

PC Suite III doesn't even seem to "talk" the same language as PC Suite II, but let us know if you manage to make it work.

Yeah, I was thinking that they weren't the same at all...

PCSIII didn't recognize my GR500 AT ALL.

In all honesty, I haven't done anywhere near enough programming to be able to deconstruct, code, then reconstruct the files. Also, I haven't come across anything promising except for this...(See attachment).

If you press Ctrl + F then type GR500, there is a section in that file. It's one of the files in the C:\\Program Files (x86)\Lg Electronics\LG PC Suite III\res directory. I had read somewhere on the net that you had to change a piece of code to make a certain model work with PC Suite III (unfortunately, I can't remember which model exactly).

I'm trying to get my hands on a Bluetooth adapter for my PC in the hopes that maybe the Bluetooth connection will hold somehow.

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to chime in at any point Cheesy haha

Problem is, LG has at least two phone platforms they use - Java/Brew and Sony Ericsson Mobile Platform (referred to as SE, SEMP, or sometimes LG3G). The GR500 is SEMP, while the Vu and others are Java/Brew.  That's why the Vu works with BitPim and the GR500 doesn't - they are based on completely different engines.

I'm pretty sure the different PC Suite numbers correspond to the platform of the phone, rather than an incremental version.  So PC Suite III may not necessarily be "newer" than PC Suite II - it's just for a different phone platform.

Ahhh I see. We haven't found a way to fix that COM Port issue right?
I have something in the works, but I can't get past the stupid "check COM port" message...believe it or not I'm getting it on a Rogers phone for a single application.

That's odd... PC Suite II should work on a Rogers Xenon.  Make sure nothing else is running and you're at the Home/Idle screen.

Also make sure your USB Connection is in Data Service mode, and not Music Player.

Wow, I edited that previous and completely changed it, but whatever. I was talking about Java Application.exe and how it was giving me the COM Port error. I then looked into it a bit more and had forgotten that that was the issue with the AT&T phones where the firmware had just blocked PC Suite from connecting...

For those of you who have Opera Mini, you can easily download a bunch of useful apps and games if you want... The only problem is that every time you download an app, Opera Mini closes, so you might as well just go to mobileapps.opera.com in the built-in browser and download everything from there.

But anyway, I think the most important thing for us to do is figure out how to get Java Application.exe to run...obviously we need to get into the filesystems and such, but I think it should be a priority once we're able to do it.

I'm gonna call LG now, see what i can get out of them, I'm having some problems with my phone anyway, so I might as well give them a call. Then I'm gonna give Rogers a call and see what I can find out from the rep there, so I'll get back to you guys within the next few hours.

AFAIK Java Application is used to load/manage Java apps.  It's probably more useful for non-AT&T users since AT&T Xenons can already load Java apps via Bluetooth or memory card in addition to OTA.
