If your question is because you don't know how to get the symbols on the keyboard, then a standard smiley is and you really need to read the manual sectionabout the keyboard.
Fn V E Fn

If you're talking about using an image, it'll turn the message into an MMS, not a standard text.  You can Insert an image, but there aren't any smileys included, you'll have to download some.

if you press the sym button on your keyboard you can scroll through a few pre-entered txt smileys, but no mms ones.

SMS never supported images, so any included images on other phones would just be a feature added by the phone parsing the text showing an image instead of text. One problem with that setup is that it can sometimes read things that aren't supposed to be smilies and render the image instead of text which can get annoying.
