Greetings all!

I'm compiling a FAQ and I need some info from Rogers Xenon users.

Any of the following that you can provide will be helpful.
  • Can you load Java applications from a memory card as described in this thread?  So far a few users have reported they cannot.
  • What is your firmware version?  Please provide the full string (it will scroll) starting with GR500-
  • If you know, what is the model number of your phone?[/url]

Thanks for the info!

Does your software version have more text or is that the entire thing?  I was hoping there'd be some consistency so yours would end with -2009-ROG-CA or something like that.

Mine says
GR500-V10f-MAR-04-2009-ATT-US

Oh, and what color is your Xenon?

GR500r-v10g-apr-14
Model just says GR500R
Hardware version 1.0
DM client version 2.5

From the engineering menu
GR500R-V10g-APR-14-2009-RW-CA
Factory version GR500RAT-010V10g-302-720-APR-14-2009

The only way that I can install java programs is OTA. (when I transfer jar or jad files via usb or bt, then tap on them, nothing happens, it doesn't give an error message.)
I can use bluetooth or usb to transfer mp3s, documents etc. (some docs, such as HTML are then seen as "unrecognisabe" file types)
MP3s all play fine. I can make them into ring tunes if they are small, and have low sample rates.
I can use the USB to transfer maps to use with MGmaps.

Oh yeah, the engineering menu has the complete version;

SW Version: GR500R-V10g-APR-14-2009-RW-CA

Factory Version: GR500RAT-01-V10g-302-702-APR-14-2009

My Xenon is black

Thanks folks!

Just one more follow-up question...  I think maybe someone typo-ed ont he Factory version, becase MRFUNNYHAHA shows ...302-702-APR...
while pragmaticjack shows ...302-720-APR...

So who's right, or are both of you right?

Thanks!

Okay I lied... more questions...

For third-party apps that you load OTA...
  • If it's signed (example, Opera Mini, Bolt - you can see the long certificate string in the JAD file if you download it to PC), do you get a single Java prompt per-session (per launch of the application), or does it prompt you for each and every access?
  • If it's not signed (example, GMail), does it prompt you for each and every access?
  • Does it come with AT&T Navigator or another GPS application?
  • If you have installed Google Maps and it only prompts once per session, does the My Location function work?  You can go to Help and choose My Location (beta) and it'll tell you if it's supported.
  • Have you succeeded in getting any third-party applications to access the local filesystem?  Example: Medieval BlueFTP?
  • Have you succeeded in getting any third-party applications to access the GPS?  Example: GPSed?
  • Does LG PC Suite II successfully communicate with your phone to manage Contacts, Contents (files), SMS, etc?

I'm guessing the general rule set (Java policy) with Rogers is essentially the same as with AT&T, but want to make sure.

sorry this is slightly unrelated, but it does have to do with rogers:

can games can be downloaded/bought for the xenon through rogers.ca?
because i checked their website, it told me to select my phone model to see what games i could buy, but the xenon wasn't on the list =/

Please post your question in just one forum area.  You already posted your question on this thread.
Cross-posting makes it confusing for everyone and leads to people thinking there's no answer to the question when there is - just in another area.

It's perfectly fine to post the same question on different forum sites - just don't post to multiple areas within the same forum site.  Thank you!

720 is correct for my phone,
I tried medieval bluetooth ftp, and it gave me an error message "something like error in line 9" or something like that.
google maps worked, only required one prompt per session (regarding data charges). It did not give the "show my location" option.
Once installed, java programs do not prompt regarding security/unsigned issues.
Rogers does not supply or support any software that uses gps of any kind for the Xenon.  I have tried every free, demo, beta, and trial gps software that I could find, with every gps setting available in the engineering menu. The only way to get my Xenon go give me a GPS location is in the engineering menu.
I have not done any more testing recently, as I am using my new Blackberry until Rogers takes the block off of the GPS in the Xenon, or someone figures out how to de-brand or flash it.

Sorry, mine is 720. Aside from in the install I haven't had Opera prompt me about being signed, I can't actually remember if it even did when I installed it.

Aha, again, sorry I couldn't be more help, I'm pretty busy during the week and don't have too much time to play with my phone. If I can give you a hand to figure out how to unlock or debrand it when I've got some time definitely count me in. I'm afraid I'll be travelling for the next two months or so, maybe by the time I return there'll be some new ground for us.

Oh btw, aside from the driver allowing me to use the phone in data access mode for the SD card the LG Suite that came with it doesn't work for synching anything. My computer is running XP SP2 and all of the buttons in it appear to be disabled when I start it up. It seems to see the phone fine with the "phone is connected" message.

I just got my Xenon back from repair (Rogers) and I've been looking for ways to install Java apps.  I noticed you can transfer *.jad and *.jar files by manually launching

C:\Program Files (x86)\LG PC Suite II\Java Application.exe

when the phone is in ' Data Service ' USB Connection mode.  The files get "deposited" to the Other Files directory but they still can't be installed...

Yeah, although Rogers at least lets PC Suite II connect (unlike AT&T), it seems the restriction of apps needing to be installed OTA still applies.
