Could it be that my Rogers phone has something to stop me from using my own songs as ringtones?  I have read everything on this forum I could find about this.  The songs I am trying to use have already been trimmed to under 300kb and are in mp3 format.  I can play them but cannot find them when I am trying to set my ringtone.  Please help if you can as this is something I really want to work.  Thanks.

How are you transferring them to the phone?  You might have to download them OTA via something like waphq.net

I used the LG PC Suite II that came on the cd.  It then gave me the ability to drag and drop from windows explorer to the micro sd card and I made up my own directory (folder) called 'my ringtones'.
update:  I formatted my micro sd card.  Then I have done 1 waphq file transfer and it worked!!!!   Thank you!

I can only assign the ringtune at the time I download it via that web site connected to the internet.  All the other 8 or so I uploaded to waphq and then downloaded to my phone are there but I cannot seem to set them as ringtones.  They don't even show up in the ringtone folder.
I'm baffled how to get this to work?Huh?

ALSO, when I use the LG PC Suite II, every option is greyed out and the only thing I achieve is automatically connected as a mass storage device.  I don't even have to set it up on the phone.  Why are all the options of this program greyed out??

I have an AT&T-branded Xenon.

So am I understanding correctly that if you download a tone via WAP, it'll ask you whether you want to use it as a ringtone and you can use it as a ringtone.  But after that, you cannot use it as a ringtone for anything else without re-downloading it?

Or did you load the other 8 or so files and not tell the phone to use them as ringtones?

LG PC Suite II will only "see" the phone when the USB connection mode is in Data Service or Music Sync mode.

In Data Service mode, even though PC Suite II recognizes my phone and enables the Contents, Contacts, SMS, etc options, they all time out, so I can't use them anyway.  I'd be very curious to hear your results since you have a Rogers-branded phone.

I can select <300KB files for use as Alarm tones, ring tones, etc.
I think this is potentially another difference between AT&T and Rogers branding.
I can also load Java applications by copying them to the memory card.

Click the link in my sig for lots more info in my work-in-progress FAQ-turned-manual.

Thanks Brandon for your help.  I have skimmed through your missing manual and wow! what a lot of work.  I have the manual as a PDF file but it leaves a lot to be desired.
I think I have the LG PC Suite II problem fixed.  I was opening up the software program before connecting the phone.  Now I connect the phone then open the program and I can access the features.  However none of them allows me to put in my own ringtones.  Well I can put them on the phone but they don't show up as ringtones.
Also I did the wapqh.com thing and successfully transferred several of my ringtones but once again on the phone they do not show up in the ringtone assignment section.  If I download one and choose "use as ringtone" it does work, but I would like to use all my own as I assign certain songs to certain people in my contacts and then I know as soon as the phone rings who it is.  The "ringtones" that Rogers has on the phone right out of the box suck.  There are a few tunes (none that I like) but most of them are tones and not songs.
UGGGGHHHHH  Rogers sucks!

I was able to use my own mp3s as ringtones on my rogers Xenon, after reducing the size to less than 300k, but I had trouble with ones that had higher sample rates. I reduced the sample rate, and they worked ok. I'm not certain if it was the sample rate, or something else that happened in the process. I didn't have to load them OTA. I used the software that came with the phone. Can't recall if I used bluetooth or the USB though.

Generally speaking, 44.1 KHz, 128 kbps, CBR is safest, though you'd think that if the Music Player can play them, the phone could use them, but I don't know...

Yeah, somehow in the PDF-ing process I lost the bookmarks.  I need to make some time to get back to it and I'll post another update.

Some sites automatically reduce the file size to under 300kb. I think there's one called mobile17 or something, but generally, I tend to make my own with a converter.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.  Are you talking about when I rip the songs from CD to do it at a lesser quality like 48kbps when I think some of mine were done at 192?  On WMP 48 is the lowest I can do.  All of my ringtones are already trimmed to under 300kb.

Oh, and Lightninman, I heard about a site called "wap.mobiles24.com"  Would this be the one you are talking about?

I guess none of these sites will reduce the BR it was ripped at though?

I just confirmed mobile17.com, but there are many different sites out there that can do this for you. As I said earlier, I do it myself, so I wouldn't know too much about the different sites  Wink

What I meant is that you should use a 44.1 KHz sampling rate (don't get bitrate and sampling rate confused - they're different things), 128 kbps bitrate, and use constant bitrate encoding, not variable bitrate.

This is generally the most compatible.

SUCCESS!!  Well I finally figured out a way to get the other ringtones on my cell.  The only very small drawback to what I am used to on other phones is that in order to have these other ringtones usuable they have to be assigned to an entry in my phonebook.  But overall, I am very happy to have solved this problem.
If you are interested (especially if you have this phone with Rogers) I hooked up the bluetooth with my laptop bluetooth and one by one transferred a ringtone to my cell and it gave me 2 ringtone options.  One was to set the transferred 'ringtone' as the ringtone, and the second one was to 'set as ringtone id' and then it automatically opened my contact list.  I scrolled to which contact I wanted the particular ringtone to be assigned to and clicked twice on that contact and voila it worked!!
My diligence paid off.  Thanks to all who responded to my question!

Sorry I just saw this now, Both my fiance and I have the Xenon, we realized this a while back. Get anyone to bluetooth a ringtone and you can set it as you described. It can be helpful to setup your incoming bluetooth transfers to save to the memory card so you don't fill up the phone. Setting it when it is received does not allow you to specify the location.
