I have an unlocked AT&T Xenon on the Bell network, and have changed my access point, internet and message centre settings as specified in the support section on their website.
The bf has a locked Bell Xenon, which has slightly different settings- I tried copying exactly what his were on mine, as the settings on the website didn't work for me. That didn't help.

I also tried calling their tech support, who said they have no idea why it doesn't work.

I don't think it's the phone's fault- I used to send picture and multimedia messages when I was using Rogers. It's almost certainly a setting that needs changing, but I'm at a loss.

I have searched the forum for anyone with similar issues, but haven't found it. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really like the feature to work.

Hmm, very odd.
Does incoming MMS work?

I'm not sure how it works on Bell, but on AT&T you can send an email to your_10_digit_mobile_number@txt.att.net or your_10_digit_mobile_number@sms.att.net

For example, if your mobile number is 123-555-1234 then you email 1235551234@txt.att.net and you'd get it as an SMS (text only).
Or if you send a message with a picture attached to 1235551234@sms.att.net you'd get it as an MMS (text+picture).

If incoming MMS message works, then it's definitely an app setting about sending.

Also make sure after you've activated the appropriate Message Center.  It should have a check-mark next to it.
Same with the Access Point, Internet Profile and Browser Account.  That should cover everything.

Top Menu > Settings > Applications > Messaging > Multimedia Msg > Message Center
Top Menu > Settings > More > Connection > Access Points
Top Menu > Settings > More > Connection > Internet Profiles
Top Menu > Settings > Applications > Browser > Accounts

Incoming messages work fine, and I've successfully sent messages in the past when I was using the same phone with Rogers.
I have followed all the instructions on the Bell site, and even tried changing the settings to match what the bf's locked Bell Xenon had in the message centre, access point, etc.

What am I missing? I have to be doing something wrong, but don't know enough about these things to know what else I should look at.

AT&T has a function on their website that will send your phone the Internet settings via Service Message.  If Bell has similar, you might try that.

Beyond that, I'm not sure...

You are using a Bell SIM in your unlocked AT&T Xenon, and not "roaming" on another SIM, right?

It's definitely a Bell SIM on an unlocked Xenon. Card says "Bell" right on it in glorious blue Helvetica.
The bf has a locked Bell Xenon and I've tried just copying his settings character for character in hopes of getting it to work. It doesn't, and I just have no idea what to try next.
I may give Bell a call tomorrow, though- if they can change my settings via text (Rogers did when I was using them) it'd be awfully nice. I'd love to have that feature work.

Bummer...  Just as one final test, does your Bell SIM work on your bf's Bell Xenon?

If so, then it's definitely something about your phone or its settings.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of trying my card in his. You're clever!  Grin
Bell should get back to me soon, too- I left them an email requesting the service message. One hopes that'll do it.

I've had odd issues in the past that were resolved by getting a new SIM card.
Still doesn't quite make sense to me, but I guess these things need upgrading or refreshing from time to time.
Keep us updated. Smiley

Had the same issue. Solution: get a Data Plan.

Maybe the rules are different for Bell.

For AT&T, it works like this
Voice
Actual data type: GSM/CDMA
Billed data type: Plan minutes

SMS
Actual data type: GSM/CDMA
Billed data type: Text Message (per message)

MMS
Actual data type: GSM/CDMA (control) + HTTP data (content)
Billed data type: Multimedia Message (per message)

Video Share
Actual data type: GSM/CDMA (voice) + data (video)
Billed data type: Video Share (per minute)

Internet Browsing
Actual data type: Data
Billed data type: Data usage (per KB)

So even though MMS technically uses a data connection, AT&T doesn't bill you for data usage, when it's used for MMS.

From the operator's POV, the phone must have some kind of data access for MMS to operate, regardless of how the operator bills you.

I did get a data plan, it just hasn't helped. And my SIM can send MMS fine from the bf's phone, so it's something with the phone settings and not the card.
A little frustrating. I am supposed to have data and unlmited MMS.
