I understand that by default when the LG Xenon receives an incoming text, the initial pop-up says "1 new message".

Is there a way I can change it so it reads "New message from (name)" instead?

No but you can change your settings to where when you send a message it will say "Message recieved from (name)"

Go to Menu -> Settings-> More->Applications->Voice Command->Call Alert->Name Reapeat
