First off, make sure you've pushed it all the way in.  It'll click, then lock.  If you have a shell or case on your phone you might need to use a fingernail or something else to push it all the way in.

The phone should then recognize the card.

You may need to format the card in your phone for use by doing a master reset or clear (don't remember which menu it's in) on the Memory Card.

If the format doesn't work, then likely the card is bad.

I had a Sandisk 16GB card go kaput on me a few months back.  Lost my data, but at least Sandisk sent me a new card.

Since you can use it with your computer now, I highly recommend using Check Flash to verify that your card is really good.

I have a USB stick that is all sorts of bad.  It accepts data and the data looks like it's there, but what gets read off is corrupt.
