Question, I have a ROGERS XENON and I have GR500RR-V10g-APR-14 firmware.

My buddy bought the same phone and has a newer firmware and have the ability to update firmware from PHONE, I don't have that option.

I read one I need to do it manualy, but can't find that website again.

thanks.

So you don't have a SOFTWARE UPDATE option in Top Menu > Settings > More > Software Update ?

That is correct.  I verified on my buddy's phone who seems to have a firmware that is 1 year newer and he has that option, while I don't..

I had found a site before, while I was away without my USB cable, so I couldn't get it done then and I forgot to bookmark it.  I need to download some drivers and do it manually, but can't find it.

There's no way I know of to update the Xenon firmware without one of those expensive phone boxes (SETool3 or Octopus Box).

OTA is the only non-box method I know of, so if your phone doesn't have the OTA update option, I'd check back with your provider.  But they may not help unless you're having an issue with the phone.

I called Rogers Tech support and their answer was - HELLO TECH SUPPORT - OH. we don't support that phone sorry, call LG.

Been with Rogers for A LONG TIME, might be time to change carriers, or just stay away from LG's and get what is supported easier.

If it's a Rogers-branded Xenon, they should support it! Shocked

FWIW, LG has at least two platforms, SEMC (Sony Ericsson) which is what the Xenon/GR500 is, and whatever the Vu uses.

The SEMC platform in general is quite locked-down.  Nothing newer than CID53 has fully hackability.  And the Xenon/GR500 seems to be CID54.

I am not trying to hack it, just trying to update the software to this one like my buddy has.   GR501-V10f-APR-02

He's got different options in his LG XENON that I don't.

The GR500 and GR501 (I believe the 501 is the one with the additional front camera too) have different firmware.

From what you posted earlier, you have a GR500 and your buddy has a GR501.  AFAIK, you can't update firmware between the two.

Not sure about the GR500RR, but the AT&T (GR500ATT) is up to v1.0o and has always had the OTA software update function - at least since v1.0f.

If it helps any, I also have a ROGERS version. If I go to phone information, I see GR500R as model name, and hardware version 1.0. No software update option either.

On my AT&T Xenon, Software Update is the menu option after Applications and before Phone Info (in Top Menu > Settings > More)

I compared with my buddy and he has it at the same spot, but I don't.

I do seem to have a small front camera too.
