No, you don't need a MicroSD card to use the data cable.
The USB connection on the Xenon has three modes:
- Music Sync - the phone connects to the PC as a music player (like connecting an MP3 player)
- Mass Storage - the phone connects to the PC as a MicroSD card reader, letting you access the MicroSD card contents
- Data Service - the phone connects to the PC with its available services (GSM modem, OBEX and whatever the Management port does)
The first two work fine. So does the GSM modem on Data Service. Still having a bit of trouble with OBEX and don't know what the Management port does on Data Service. Plus it's quite likely that my carrier (AT&T) has restricted those functions.
