I'm fed up with the Xenon built in Yahoo IM client. I repeatedly get "Connection Failed!" messages after hitting the send button and end up retyping the message... sometimes 2 - 3 times. I'm getting billed for these mis-sends too! I managed to find a yahoo IM website to chat using my data plan but I'm constantly getting the "Connection Failed!" messages too. Fortunately, the typed message remains in the send box and I can resend it again without having to  retype it. But this is getting old too. It happens not only when I hit send but also when I try to refresh the screen (which is what I have to do to see if there are any incoming message which is another annoying problem best left for a separate post).  Anybody experienced this problem and if so, is there a solution?

What's your signal strength, and is it reporting G, EDGE or 3G next to the signal bars?

I've successfully sent messages while the 3G and two signal bars are showing and have received connection failed notices while the 3G and four bars are showing. It, therefore, does not appear to be a problem connected with signal strength. The connection failed notices seem to occur when the phone remains idle for several minutes as though the phone disconnects from the network.  Its as if the one phone needs to reconnect to the system to send when the phone remains idle for several minutes.  Once connected, messages sent in quick successions get sent with no problem. Now that I think about it, I have a program which streams webcam video over the internet. I use it as a security program to watch the front of my house, etc. When I watch the video on my phone, it doesn't stream to my phone like how it does on my desktop. Instead, it blink every second to update the video. It does this for about 20 seconds or even less than goes blank as though the phone stopped receiving video or goes idle. If I hit the refresh button, it streams again and then does the same thing. I wonder if its related to my problem with my text/IM?

If i wait a 20-30 seconds after I receive the Connection Failed message and resend the tx/IM, it goes through. If I hit the send in quick successions after I receive the Connection Failed message I get the same error message sometimes 3 or 4 times.

I've had this happen in areas of spotty signal (the signal strength reading lags a bit).

In your case I'd try powering the phone down, pulling the battery, counting to 10, then reinserting the battery and powering the phone back up.

After it's powered back up, check for a software update.
Top Menu > Settings > More > Software Update if you have an AT&T Xenon - not sure if Rogers/Bell/Telstra have the same.

Did all that but no change.

Coincidentally, I experimented with my phone and paid closer attention to my phone after my initial post just to see if I could figure out what was going on.

My Observations:

The phone lost connection with the internet if it remained idle for 30 +/- seconds.
When the phone remains idle for 30 +/- seconds and you hit "send", it initiates the connection process with the network but because it is disconnected, the send fails. Hence, the "connection failed" error.

Subsequent "sends" are successful after waiting a couple of seconds after the initial "send" is made to allow the phone to reconnect to the network.

The "Connection Failed" error occurs when I use Yahoo's mobile messenger or the Xenon IM application.
The eBuddy chat aftermarket application, unlike Yahoo's mobile messenger, has an automatic refresh function that initiates itself every 15 +/- seconds to refresh the screen and to post new incoming messages. The refresh feature on eBuddy seems to keep the phone connected to the network. Consequently, "connection failed" errors never appear when I use eBuddy to chat.

When running eBuddy to chat with one friend and Yahoo mobile messenger to chat with another (i.e. running two applications or webpages), I never receive the "Connection failed" error in Yahoo.

My Conclusions:

When the phone remains inactive for 30 +/- seconds, it disconnects itself from the network. Attempts to send message when the phone is disconnected result in a "connection failed" error. The initial attempt to send a message causes the phone to reconnect to the network. Thus, immediate subsequent sends get pushed through with no problem.

eBuddy's auto-refresh feature keeps the phone connected to the network. Running a program in the background which refreshes itself keeps the phone connected to the network and thus, eliminates the problem with "connection failed" errors.

Bottom Line:

Using a chat client that doesn't refresh itself will create bitterness and ill feelings towards LG and the service provider and could cause elevated blood pressure not to mention abusive tendencies toward mobile communication equipment.

Recommendation:

Use a chat client that automatically refreshes itself.

Disclosures:

Sorry, but I'm to lazy to proof my post for grammar.

Hope this helps people out there facing the same problem.
