It started with my daughter's phone now my son's does it too. When they make or receive a call it almost instantly hangs up, the longest call they have had is a record 22 seconds. The phones are not very old nor have they been abused. Other than occassional freezing up they work pretty well. Help!!! Angry

That's very, very odd.  Short of spotty reception, I've never seen this.

I'd go back to the store and have them issue you new SIM cards - sometimes that helps.

It definitely not the reception, as it happens everywhere with full bars or not. I didn't think the SIM card would affect that but I am willing to try anything.

Get ready, the next thing your phone will do is stop working.  Mine did exactly the same thing as this and now it will not let me communicate with it at all.  It does not recognize te touch screen.  There is no help at this point according to the customer service rep. I spoke with.  He recommended 3rd party software to retrieve your data but he doesn't seem to understand me whn I tell him it will not recognize the touch screen & without that it is a worthless piece of equipment.  Took it to At&T, they can't help either, recommended a data recovery company, just talked to them and they cannot help.  I would recommend you have them save everything they have on the phone to the SIM card NOW!

BTW, the info I need is critical to a current lawsuit and I can't get it!!!!

@Kentuckylady:

If the data is critical, then you definitely should take it to a data-recovery/forensics company.  As long as the memory is not physically damaged, they should be able to recover its contents.

Was it a file/picture/sound saved on the phone, or is it a text/MMS message?

If it's a file and your phone was in Mass Storage mode before the touch screen went kaput, you can eject your MicroSD card and connect via USB to access the phone's files.

Also, the touch screen *can* be replaced without replacing the motherboard (therefore preserving the phone's contents) - I broke my touch screen and had Geek Squad repair it (I have the Geek Squad phone protection plan).  My original phone came back with contents intact and a new touch screen.  Of course there's no guarantee of data recovery from Geek Squad, so if what you need is really critical as you say, take it to a data recovery service.

@plumgirl:
It might not be the SIM card, but I have seen random weirdness with older SIMs.  Sometimes the store rep checks your card, sometimes not.

Just make sure that they are very aware that you need the data on the phone.

I think the paperwork I signed before handing it over explicitly said that they are not responsible for data lost on the device in the repair process.

If you have a mom-n-pop type cell phone repair shop in the vicinity, you might want to go there, since they'll be more likely to understand and obey your wishes about preserving the data.
